PROP 2 TECHNOLOGY
Technology keeps us connected!
Technology needs to be accessible to ALL STUDENTS! Prior to the pandemic, students used technology to enhance their educational experience, accessing platforms that made learning come alive, preparing them with skills for their future. When school buildings closed in March 2020, Franklin Pierce Schools quickly adapted to remote learning because every student already had access to a computing device, allowing them to stay engaged with their teachers, classmates and learning.
Who benefits?
All students will benefit from the passage of proposition 2. Franklin Pierce Schools believe that all students, regardless of their age, ability, or interest should have access to tools that help them thrive. The technology levy allows each student to access their learning through an assigned device, at school, in the classroom or their home. In addition to students, Proposition 2 equips staff with important tools to teach, to connect and to inspire learners. Finally, the technology levy supports families through broadband access, IT support, and communication tools.
What DOes it fund?
Proposition 2 funds all of the essential ingredients for students to stay connected with their learning:
a laptop for each student
instructional classroom technology
network and hardware infrastructure
communication and learning software
staff to support students, staff and families
cybersecurity tools
data and storage solutions
building safety and security equipment
Why does it matter?
Whether students are preparing for college, competing for 21st century jobs or trying to access their learning remotely during a global pandemic, our students need access to technology.
Proposition 2 allows all students to access the proper tools for learning, not just those that can afford it. In addition to accessing knowledge, technology provides an avenue for students to access career skills required in today's job market.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Prop 2 continues an existing levy passed by voters in 2018 at $.41/1,000 with a new levy set at $.41/$1,000 to support continued investment in technology from 2023-2026. This is not a tax rate increase and will provide vital funding for technology access to support student learning.
